SOUL POWER: Documentary

I saw this move this weekend with a friend and it was Awesome! Unfortunately it's an indie film, so you have to really search in your area to see when and if its showing. I know in NYC it is showing in only 2 theaters. For those of you who don't know what this movie is about I'll give a quick highlight.

This documentary chronicles the time leading up to the famous Ali-Foreman fight "Rumble in the Jungle". It focuses on the 3 days music festival that was put together by Don King and a few other cats leading up to the fight. The film give good insight into the thoughts and feelings and the excitement of the various bands as they journeyed to Zaire the days before the huge festival. The film shows performances by the Spinners, B.B. King, Celia Cruz, James Brown and a few other surprises that I'm sure you will enjoy. If you are able id recommend seeing this film at the theater. If not be sure to but it on DVD once its released.

A Good Day to be Black & Sexy...

Written and Directed by Dennis Dortch. This movie take a realistic look at black love and sexuality and realtionships. I am glad to see this type of film and wish there would be more films like this one. It's a shame that this movie was not shown on a national scale, but I was able to catch it at film festival here in NYC earlier this week. What impressed me about this film is that I have been in or have close friends that have been in the situations in this film. So for me I got it and loved it.
